Chakka Avial

The flesh of the jackfruit is starchy and fibrous and is a source of dietary fiber.In Kerala two varieties of jackfruit  are predominanat mainly varikka  and koozha .Raw jackfruit can be used to prepare curries,fries,puzhuku etc.Here is a recipe of Chakka Avial.

 

Ingredients

Jackfruit  Pieces                2cups
Jackfruit Seeds                  1/2cup
Drumstick                            2
Cucumber(Vellarikka)    1 Small Piece
Turmeric Powder              1/4 tsp
Chilly Powder                     1/4tsp
Green Chilly                         6
Jeera                                       1/4tsp
Garlic                                      6
Coconut                                 1/2
Raw Mango                           1 small
Salt                                          As required
Coconut Oil                          2tsp
Curry Leaves
Method
Cut Jackfriut  pieces/Chakka Chula into 4 vertically.Cut the seeds also into 4 pieces.Cut the drumstick and cucumber into long pieces of desired length.Add some water,turmeric powder,chilly powder,salt and cook till 3/4th.Coarsly grind the coconut with jeera,garlic and green chillies and add to the pieces along with cut raw mango pieces.Close and cook for 2 minutes.Now open the lid and mix every thing together.By the time it will be cooked if not cook till done.Now add curry leaves and coconut oil ,mix together and remove from heat.Serve hot.
