Squid(Koonthal) Fry

Squid / Kanava fry is a sea food variant with a difference. Try out this mouth watering recipe.

Ingredients

Squid 1/2kg
Onion  1 large
Mustard Seeds A few
Ginger 1 large piece
Garlic  6-7 pods
Green Chilies 5-6 split lengthwise
Tomato 1
Red Chilly powder 1/2tsp
Coriander Powder 1tsp
Turmeric Powder 1/4tsp
Pepper Powder 1/4tsp
Garam Masala Powder 1/4tsp
Coconut Oil 3tbs
Coconut Pieces 2tbs
Curry leaves   As required
Salt   To Taste
Method
Clean the squid and cut in to required size.Cut the onions and tomato thinly. Crush the ginger and garlic.Cut the coconut pieces in to 1/4″ pieces of minimum thickness. Heat a pan and add coconut oil. Splutter the mustard seeds.Add the onions,ginger, garlic and curry leaves. Saute till light brown in colour. Add the coconut pieces and fry for 2-3 minutes.  Add all the powders and saute till done. Add the tomato pieces and curry leaves. Saute well.Add salt.Now add the cleaned squid pieces and mix thoroughly.Close the pan with a lid and simmer the flame. Occasionally saute and cook till done and all the water gets absorbed and gravy becomes dry. Remove from heat and serve.
